First let me say, I don’t remember hearing this song growing up. I might have, knowing my Mom if she had it on cassette or maybe CD I’m sure I heard it. I’m not sure if my Dad has it in his massive music collection, I don’t recall hearing it during his marathon of Christmas songs between Thanksgiving and New Years. Between the two of them I would have heard it at some point. I don’t remember any thing else but the traditional songs and Mariah Carey has pretty much dominated my Christmas song world since the mid 90’s.
It was a few years ago when a local radio station went from their usual light rock/pop format to their annual 24/7 Christmas music binge and it caught my attention. Its not your typical Christmas songs about Jesus’s birth, or the traditional songs you hear every year. This one has a unique quality, one that someone imagines when speaking about Christmas in Maine and New England in general. This song was played so much the year I first heard it, I grew tired of it quickly. Over the years the song slowly grew on me. Last year, I don’t remember hearing it on the radio at all and I couldn’t find it on iTunes to be purchased. I did find another version of it, but it was not the same.

The song has a new meaning since on Christmas day its has become a tradition to go out and photograph Christmas in Maine.

Merry Christmas
