I happened to catch a horoscope for last weekend and it mentioned the weekend was going to be filled with reunions. I had a wedding in Jersey (Mazel Tov! Sara and Ian!) I knew of a quick family reunion. Then during the last minute, my bff and I realized we were both going to be in Jersey at the same time. It’s a rare occasion for us to see each other with 6 states between us. And we were bound and determined to make it happen, and it did!.. then for those who know about my time in Pennsylvania know, how much I love hoagies from Wawa and Yuengling. Life has a funny way to bring you together with people you haven’t seen for a while and a long lost friend. This friend is White Port Lemon Juice. AKA. 95.5 WPLJ. Anyone who spent any time with me from the age of 12 to my current 36 has heard me mention this radio station at least once.

I have been dreading this day since the rumor surfaced that WPLJ was sold. This past weekend I had WPLJ on in the car while I was in Connecticut and driving to New Jersey. It was an emotional time while they played anything from the 90’s, it brought me back to sitting in my Dad’s old living room and just listening to the radio. I was an odd child, most pre teens were doing something outside and I was just listening to this magical devise my father had that reached the New York City air waves. I didn’t know what it was then, just something that caught my attention and couldn’t get when I was in Maine. Looking back it was special, so many memories that very few would understand.

I have always said my Dad taught me how to listen to radio and to this day it’s was a part of my life as apart of my family. My teen years were started off with Scott and Todd, taking notes of the show because at the time I waned to get into radio and that was my Dad’s advice. I took years worth of notes – then it was Patty Steele becoming my alarm clock in high school and in college to listening to Jeff Miles while a work. This station was more then a radio station, it became a friend.

Radio set to WPLJ for one last time.

I couldn’t find clips from yesterday when Scott and the gang reunited with Todd Pettengill on air. But I did find this, when Scott talks about attending the reunion on 5.21 and being on air yesterday at WPLJ.

WPLJ jingles over the years.

Tonight at 7 PM WPLJ goes off the air and becomes apart of the K-Love family. As the station changes hands tonight, the DJ’s onair find new work homes I can wish everyone the best and hope there is someone out there who find a new friend with the new 95.5 format. I can’t help but smile that 95.5 WPLJ was there before school, after school, during 9/11, while in the car, at work, on good days and bad days and I am trying my best not to cry because it’s over but to smile because it happened. Thank you PLJ, you were a great friend and no station can replace you.

I am still secretly hoping Todd Pettengill will join Scott Shannon on WCBS.
